Leslie and Josh
July 16, 2008
I’ve said it before and will continue to say it… I love second shooting with other photographers! It gives me great delight to see how they work and challenge myself to complement the principal photographer’s style in a way that is both totally different, but also able to blend with the portfolio of images the client will see in the end.
On June 14 I was out in Wisconsin for the first time visiting with Amy of Ardent Photography. We had an action-packed weekend; one of the highlights was shooting the wedding of Leslie and Josh at First English Lutheran Church in Appleton, WI with her. Here’s her blog post about the wedding.
Amy is totally different in her focus on a wedding than I am. Hers are breathtakingly romantic images and an emphasis on the dashing and beautiful. Of course I wouldn’t characterize my own work as “unromantic” or “unbeautiful”, but I tend to look for the quirky personalities and surprising details of an event….
On a wedding day every photographer becomes family portrait artist, food and product photographer, as well as photojournalist and fashion portraitist… we have to do everything… second shooting means that I can go off and take photos of things on the fringe but still integral to the event, from the flowers in the trolley station parking lot to the children dancing in cacaphony on the dance floor to the bride alone for the first time in a week just moments before walking down the aisle.

Rachel, these are amazing… I’m so glad you and Amy shot my wedding! I love the dance floor shots, the color, the style – everything! – and I can’t wait to see the rest of the images.

Wonderful shots! I love the colors she chose, perfect. If I hadn’t been so determined to have red I would have done that color.
