I’m headed to an apple orchard in Stow MA on Monday, October 20 and looking for a young girl who I have not yet photographed between age 5 and 14 for a test shoot in the apple orchard. This session may be used as headshots or just fun portraits with the beautiful trees. A parent would be required to be present at the shoot, and sign a model release. Time is negotiable based on your school schedule, but my preference would be for a 3:00 session.
Please spread the word if you know someone who might be interested.
Email rachel@mergeweddings.com for more info or to sign up!

Saturday, November 1 is mergeweddings client appreciation day! So if you hired me to shoot your wedding in 2007 or 2008, I’ll be doing a series of complimentary mini family portraits in Boston.
Who? wedding clients of decenturbanweddings/mergeweddings (2007/2008) and their children/pets
What? Family portraits; 20-30 minutes each
Location? Larz Anderson Park or Franklin Park
Fee? Complimentary session, but with a $50 session reservation fee that becomes a print credit you can use for cards or prints.
Why? Celebrate the last days of autumn, have an excuse to spend some time outside at the park with your spouse, get a head start on your holiday cards!

(a personal favorite from a family session in 2007)
I am taking December off, so November is the final chance to do a portrait session. I love that this time off at the holiday season forces me not to procrastinate or otherwise put off sessions and ordering cards…
If you hired me for another type of portrait session (boudoir, engagement, or headshots) any additional spots will open up at the mini-session $225 rate. Email to get on that waiting list (rachel@mergeweddings.com)

Hey Rachel -
Wow. We LOVE our wedding photos — we spent an hour and a half looking at them last night! We couldn’t believe how well you captured the the spirit of our celebration and our guests. Our wedding was anything but traditional, and we felt lucky to have an artist like yourself there to document it all.
And you are such a blast to work with! So many of our guests commented on how you fit right in with everyone, and made them feel perfectly comfortable. You’ve got a real knack for blending in to capture the unplanned, uninhibited moments, AND the artistic direction to pull off uniquely composed group shots. What a dynamite combo!
And the fake mustache pics? Downright laugh out loud!
Thank you for being such a perfect part of our hoop-la!

I want to give notice about Rebecca Ong-Sutherland’s open house. She started Boston Alternative Health last year, and is hosting an open house on October 17-18.
Next weekend we will be holding an Open House to show off our office and meet new people! Learn more about Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine, and Structural Bodywork. Enter our raffle where you could win 3 complimentary acupuncture treatments!
The event is held on two days. Friday October 17th from 5-9 and Saturday October 18th from 11-9. Whichever works best for you!
So swing by to say hello, show your support, or just come for the free refreshments. The invitation to the event is attached to this email.
Speaking of the office, we have made a change to the office location. We regret to announce that we no longer operate from our Brookline office and now are solely located in Lexington Center. It was a difficult decision, but in the end we had to do what was best for our patients (and our sanity!). Now with just one office to focus on we will have more opportunity to give the availability, care and focus that our patients deserve.
So, if you’re interested in alternative, holistic healing or need some body work, I’d urge you to go meet Rebecca at Boston Alternative Health.
(and yes, she is the one who invited me along on their honeymoon last year!! I’ll be back in HI from 1-12 December if any of you are going to be there this year…)

I had a portrait request from my friend Rebekah, a modern opera singer who chooses to perform pieces like Pierrot Lunaire for fun. If you know what that is, you know what I mean. Becki chose a couple of really stunning images to use for her publicity and personal work. And yes, her eyes are really that blue. The images are only slightly edited for exposure.

Erin’s green Betsey Johnson dress gave her a rockabilly look and made her feel like Cindi Lauper. When we were doing a few more portraits together right after the ceremony, I wanted to use the dock and water, but also wanted to do something a little different, so I asked Erin to bop over to Jared like Cindi would. It was so funny! I was definitely hooting and hollering, and we were all laughing pretty hard.

Erin and Jared. If you know them, you know what I mean by that. These two people - real and talented about life and love - are not afraid to demonstrate their fondness toward one another or to their friends and family. I’d be jealous, except they’re the kind of people who you can’t possibly be jealous of. Their circus-themed wedding was basically the event of the century - they rented out cabins for everyone at a campground way up in Maine and invited everyone they love out to party with them for the week. It oozes out of their veins that this is not only one event, but symbolic of their lifestyle of love and laughter and generosity and community.
Citizens of the creative class, Erin and Jared are themselves and have surrounded themselves with Makers. Musicians, visual artists, poets, dancers. The music of their day was crafted for them and played for them out under the birch next to the lake where they were married and in the warm barn where the party commenced. Circus-theme invitations with admit one tickets indicated to everyone months ago that this was not a wedding to be missed. Hand crafted posters that Jared the Illustrator screen printed not only graced the walls of the barn, but served as a parting gift for all of their guests.

There’s an extremely tangible bond between Jared and his brother. I love all three of these images as they prepared for the wedding.

Erin and Jared chose to meet each other for a few minutes of personal time before photos and before the wedding ceremony. It was beautiful to see them reacting to one another and having this time to themselves.

Wedding party = awesome. Erin’s twin sister was wearing cowboy boots!

Special music composed and performed for Erin and Jared at their wedding ceremony.

It was awesome to see Erin escorted through the woods, past the cabins and up to the wedding ceremony by her father. What a setting!

Does this image look posed? Because it isn’t. Erin and Jared enjoyed watching all of their guests head over to the reception after the emotional ceremony, from a semi-secret spot by the dock.

Jared, a talented illustrator, designed the fresh ink they both took on with symbols for their wedding and commitment.

Erin’s father wrote a song for them and played it in front of everyone at the reception.

Want to know more about the moustaches? There’s an entire gallery dedicated to the photos…

Aquafina product placement?

I had some assistance with this shot - someone was in the barn holding the video light to create more extreme backlighting on this cool guy in a hat.

Did someone say Cindi Lauper?

Hey guys! I just wanted to throw it out there that I’ve been suffering from some sort of repetitive stress injury in my wrists this week. Despite the fact that I spend more time with my computer than anything else, this is the first time in my life something like this wrist injury has happened (aside from some issues with my jaw back when I was a classical flautist).
I spent a couple of days at the beginning of this week heroically answering all of the piled up email inquiries; this probably didn’t help the condition.
The thing that hurts the most is writing (ironic that I am blogging about it… slowly, with a brace)… so if you have sent me an email in that has not been answered, or have a question or want to schedule a shoot, feel free to give me a call at 857-233-0810.

I wanted to let you know that I absolutely LOVE the photos that you put up in my bridals gallery. I love my wedding photos, but realized after the fact that somehow none were taken of just me or just my husband, and I was really bummed to not have that. The bridals that you took are absolutely stunning and I’m so grateful to have them to add to my [wedding] photos. (Looking back, I wish I had thought to find a way to have you at our wedding, along with our photographers) You just have a way of catching the life, beauty and silliness inside of people and using it to make them even more beautiful on the outside (if that makes any sense?) Thank you for all of the work that you’ve done, from boudoirs to bridals for myself (and for my husband… he’s equally as grateful)…
-M
