I adore this image of Christina and Phil from their Lowell MA wedding in a converted mill building.

exciting artists

I have been so lucky recently to meet and hang out with inspiring individuals. When I was passing through Connecticut a couple of weeks ago I stopped by to meet photographer Seshu Badrinath and his adorable big-eyed wunderchild Ketan… Seshu is also pursuing multi-ethnic wedding photography so it is a delight to know and talk with him. This weekend I was honored to have kickass Long Island photographer Laura Moakley, recently back from Ireland, come out all the way from NY to shoot with me in Lowell, MA for Christina and Phil’s Old Hollywood glam wedding set in a converted mill. And yesterday, delight of delights, I picked up Anne Ruthmann from her new diggs in Lowell and we went out to Amesbury to spend the afternoon with photographer Eric Laurits, who is just recently back from visiting a nudist camp (!!!). And I can say this about Anne and Eric: I kicked their booties at Set.
I feel blessed to know such wonderful individuals.
awww… more kind words.

Rachel!!!
I’ve been meaning to email you for the last week, but life and work always seems to get in the way. I can’t thank you enough for agreeing to come and hang out with my sister and her friends. The photos from the session are AMAZING. Their personalities just jump out of each picture and I love LOVE the “meadow” photos. So gorgeous. At the risk of sounding redundant, you are an incredible artist and it’s always so much fun to work with you.

Dear Rachel,
I think I speak for both Erik and I that we couldn’t have chosen a better photographer for our wedding. I knew the moment we had our meeting at Starbucks when you immediately commented on my freckles that you were the right person for the job.
The pictures from the wedding are beyond amazing, I don’t think I can even tell you how much I love them. I can really see what the day was through the pictures you took because quite honestly I’ve already forgotten so much. I can’t get enough of them, they really ad the last final touch to a wonderful experience for us.
I also need to tell you personally that you really made me feel great during this whole experience and I was very nervous as I was not a skinny bride. I was in awe how beautiful you’ve always made me look in ways I didn’t think was possible. I was worried the whole thing would actually make me feel worse about myself but it ended up being quite the opposite. I can never thank you enough.

Leslie and Josh

I’ve said it before and will continue to say it… I love second shooting with other photographers! It gives me great delight to see how they work and challenge myself to complement the principal photographer’s style in a way that is both totally different, but also able to blend with the portfolio of images the client will see in the end.
On June 14 I was out in Wisconsin for the first time visiting with Amy of Ardent Photography. We had an action-packed weekend; one of the highlights was shooting the wedding of Leslie and Josh at First English Lutheran Church in Appleton, WI with her. Here’s her blog post about the wedding.
Amy is totally different in her focus on a wedding than I am. Hers are breathtakingly romantic images and an emphasis on the dashing and beautiful. Of course I wouldn’t characterize my own work as “unromantic” or “unbeautiful”, but I tend to look for the quirky personalities and surprising details of an event….
On a wedding day every photographer becomes family portrait artist, food and product photographer, as well as photojournalist and fashion portraitist… we have to do everything… second shooting means that I can go off and take photos of things on the fringe but still integral to the event, from the flowers in the trolley station parking lot to the children dancing in cacaphony on the dance floor to the bride alone for the first time in a week just moments before walking down the aisle.

If I could only choose one photo…

If I could only choose one photo to show you how Erik really feels about Robin, I think I would choose this one from their first dance together after the rained-out ceremony. You can see very clearly that they simply adore one another. There’s no one else in the room at that instant. They’re not acting for a crowd.
It’s this kind of deliciousness that makes my job really really worth the drama. It’s a glimpse of realness among this huge institution. It’s being able to share this with them so they can remember when things aren’t as seemingly blissful.
I had two weddings on the weekend of June 21/22. The Saturday wedding was a large, Catholic church wedding, and Robin and Erik chose a farm [ the Harrington Farm in Princeton MA ] out in the middle of nowhere for their intimate ceremony and reception. Both were lovely, in very different ways.
Seniors!

I had a fantastic time with Edith, Jill, Katherine, and Laura on their recent college scouting trip to Boston. We went to a playground, hiking trail, and they even kind of played in the fountain at the park. I was a little bit worried that it would be difficult to get four people to look good at the same time, but with these four beauties it was no problem at all! The real question… what colleges will these four end up attending?
